The University of Savoie was founded in 1979, and has a student population of 12.000. The University is located in alpine eastern France and has one campus in Annecy-le-Vieux and two around Chambéry in Savoie. The Jacob-Bellecombette campus, 1.5km south of Chambéry, is the campus for students of economics, languages, literature, social sciences and law. Dominated by the castle of the Dukes of Savoy the old town of Chambéry is one of the most remarkable old neighbourhoods in France. Chambery is located near the most important ski resorts in Europe, the largest natural lakes in France, and it is the gateway to many regional natural parks.
