Depending on the country of citizenship, a foreign student may enter Norway by means of one of the following:
- A) EU Identity card: Exchange students with EU/EEA citizenship
B) Passport - Visitor’s Permit: Exchange students with non EU/EEA citizenship who can travel to Norway without an Entry Visa
C) Entry Visa: Exchange students with non EU/EEA citizenship who need an Entry Visa to enter Norway
A residence permit is required for all exchange students who intend to stay in Norway for more than three months (except Nordic citizens of Denmark, Finland, Sweden and Iceland).
Registration at the Foreign Police
All exchange students (except Nordic citizens) must register at the police within seven days after arrival.
The foreign police will have an Open Day in August 2010 for international students who come for the autumn semester. Students are recommended to register on the designated day, even if this is later than seven days after your arrival. The foreign police will process your application for the residence permit directly and the International Relations Office will also be present. More detailed information about the Open Day at the foreign police is given upon arrival.
Students arriving in January for the spring semester will have to register during ordinary opening hours.
