Centre for Development Studies and Microfinance (MICRO)

Established in the spring of 2007, MICRO is a research centre within the fields of corporate directed development aid, development economics, traditional development aid, third world education and microfinance. The scope of the Centre covers essential political, economical and cultural dimensions of development studies. In August 2007, MICRO's director Anne Welle-Strand received a six year Professorship in Development Studies and Microfinace.

The Centre aims to produce new knowledge and teach within the field of Development Management. Key strategies include conducting international research projects, fostering academic talents and enhancing local competence through cooperation across faculty. Presently the Centre's research focus is on the effect of the following factors on development:

1. Development assistance (aid)
2. Private investments in developing countries
3. Private remittances
4. Financial institutions (microfinance)
5. International regulations and organizations

BI Norwegian School of Management has a broad base of competence relevant for research and training within this field, including education and entrepreneurship, organization and leadership, international management, political economy, strategy, macro- and microeconomics and financial economics.
