Students from EU/EEA countries
You can obtain health insurance coverage from the Norwegian Social Security System if you have a European Health Card. The card must be obtained in your home country.
Students from NON EU/EEA countries
If you are staying in Norway for more than three months, you can file an application with the Norwegian National Insurance Office and obtain coverage from the Norwegian Social Security System. You will then hence benefit from free hospitalisation, subsidized medical care, etc. The Norwegian National Insurance Scheme must be sent to your local insurance office.
Students staying for more than 6 months will automatically be enrolled in the Norwegian Social Security System
If you are staying in Norway less than three months, you must obtain medical insurance from your home country. Please note that the National Health Insurance only covers the students while they are in Norway and does not cover students on their travels abroad. It also does not cover dental care, medicines or treatment of illnesses contracted before arrival in Norway.
