1. Specialisation Objectives
The programme prepares students for the international academic job market, for positions in research organisations and consulting firms, as well as national and international institutions like central banks, the IMF and the World Bank.
2. The Department
The Department of Economics consists of 29 faculty members, including 8 professors, 7 associate professors, 3 assistant professors, and 4 adjunct professors. The Department hosts two research centres, Centre for Monetary Economics (CME) and Centre for Research in Economics and Management (CREAM).
CME has established a professional network and organises meetings and seminars for researchers and economists working in academic institutions, financial markets, Norges Bank, the Ministry of Finance, the FSA of Norway, as well as other institutions. CME organizes the annual Norges Bank Watch review of monetary policy, which is financed by the Ministry of Finance.
The objective of CREAM is to provide high quality research in the fields of industrial economics and labour economics, to provide research-based advice to decision makers in the public and private sectors, and to serve as a network for researchers and decision makers.
The Department is a member of the Nordic Network in Economics – a joint Nordic initiative offering intensive PhD courses by specialists, and financing the participation of PhD students from all the Nordic countries.
3. Areas of Research
The Department's faculty members are actively engaged in academic research. Without being exhaustive, the following list of research areas covers the main research output from the Department of Economics in recent years:
• Business cycles and monetary policy
