Many companies and organisations support the research activities at BI Norwegian Business School through various collaboration agreements. It is up to the School to decide who will be offered a chair, based on the criteria that applies to appointing professors.

The holder of a professorship is to conduct free and independent research, and is completely free to express their professional opinions on any subject. There are currently thirteen endowment chairs at BI Norwegian Business School.

The Color Line Chair

Department of Innovation and Economic Organisation
BI Norwegian Business School is looking to reinforce its academic environment in the field of experience economy and the travel industry by establishing a new Center for Experience Economy. 
An endowed professorship has been financed by Color Line for 2006-2011.

DnB NOR Chair

Bruno Gerard
Department of Financial Economics
DnB NOR and BI Norwegian Business School have entered into a collaboration agreement to reinforce and further develop knowledge and competence in the field of Financial Asset Management. Under this agreement, Bruno Gerard has been employed in the endowed professorship for 2005 until 2010.

The NEMI Chair

Håkan Håkansson
Department of Marketing
This professorship is funded by using the NEMI fund as basic capital for a fund which is earmarked for the financing of a professorship in International Management.

The Orkla Chair

Bjørn Hennestad
Department of Leadership and Organizational Management 
The professorship is financed by Orkla ASA and is tied to the development of the field of leadership and company culture.
The ambition is to undress clichés and templates that have developed in the field of management and organisation in order to uncover the underlying company cultures in the present-day adaptation of the management and organisation subjects. 

Shipowner Tom Wilhelmsen’s Foundation Chair

Department of Strategy and Logistics 
Shipowner Tom Wilhelmsen’s Foundation and BI have entered into an agreement to reinforce the development of knowledge about the maritime industries at BI Norwegian Business School. A research centre for maritime research has been established and the endowed professorship is included in this centre. The collaboration agreement has been entered into for 2006-2011.

The Statoil Chair

Johan Olaisen
Department of Leadership and Organization Management
This professorship in the field of competence management is financed by Statoil as part of a major collaboration agreement between BI Norwegian Business School and Statoil. The collaboration covers research and education, and the professorship is the coordinating factor of the collaboration.  
The collaboration agreement was entered into for three years on 1 July 2000, and is automatically extended by one year at a time unless one of the parties decides to terminate it. 

The Stein Erik Hagen Chair

Øyvind Bøhren
Department of Financial Economics
In the autumn of 2004, professor Øyvind Bøhren was appointed to the chair of Stein Erik Hagen’s professorship of private ownership. At the same time, the Centre for ownership research was set up at BI Norwegian Business School, in association with the NHO forum for family-owned businesses and private ownership. .
 The endowed professorship’s field ranges from the capital markets and finance to strategy and business management and the holder is expected to initiate research, tuition and dissemination of competence.

The Telenor Chair of International Strategy and Management

Øystein Fjeldstad
Department of Strategy and Logistics 
This professorship is endowed by Telenor and is dedicated  to international strategy and management with particular emphasis on telecommunications and internet business. The chair is part of a larger collaborative agreement between BI Norwegian Business School and Telenor which covers research and tuition. 
The professorship was established in July 2001 with an agreed duration of seven years. In August 2008 the agreement was prolonged until October 2012. 

The Telenor Chair of Culturally Conditioned Innovation

Johan From
Department of Communication, Culture and Languages 
The endowed professorship will focus especially on the importance of technology as a means of furthering a good society. A key objective is to develop better descriptions and explanations of the potential inherent in the use of new technology, and collating international know-how in the field. 
The professorship was set up in October 2007, with a time-frame of five years. The professorship is part of a larger collaborative agreement between  BI Norwegian Business School and Telenor which covers research as well as tuition. 

The Toyota Chair

Jørgen Randers
Department of Public Governance
BI Norwegian Business School and Toyota Norge AS have entered into an agreement for an endowed professorship with the objective of research into climate scenarios. The research is to contribute to a reduction of the global emissions of greenhouse gases.  
The work is to be headed up by professor Jørgen Randers and a new research centre at BI Norwegian Business School, "Centre for climate strategy” will be established. The endowed professorship has a duration of five years, with start-up time on 1 August 2008. The endowment from  Toyota Norge AS amounts to NOK 9 million in total.

Development Studies – Endowment Chair

Anne Welle-Strand
Department of Leadership and Organization Management

The endowed professorship in development studies was donated by Olav Nils Sunde and established in the spring of 2007, with the intention of strengthening basic research into development studies and micro-financing. The endowed professorship will have a time horizon of six years.  

The chair will be responsible for developing and heading a research centre for development studies and micro-financing (MICRO). The centre is headed by Anne Welle-Strand and will focus on the role of business and industry in foreign aid and development work.  

Retail Trade Research – Endowment Chair

Kenneth Wathne
Department of Marketing

Through its Center for retail trade research, BI Norwegian Business School has established an academic environment related to research and communication concerning the requirements of the retail trade. 

The endowed professorship which is linked to this centre is filled by Kenneth Wathne and is financed by the BGF foundation (BGF - Bygningsartikkelgrossistenes Forening). The professorship is to contribute to a higher focus on research and tuition within retail trade.
