MY RESEARCH INTERESTS:

I am in my final year as a PhD Candidate and plan to hand in my thesis before Christmas 2013. My PhD candidatship at BI is a part of the research project NETworked POWER, which examines the potential social software has for innovation. My doctoral project tries to reveal sucess criterias for social intranets (Enterprise 2.0) to increase cross-divitional collaboration, knowledge sharing and imporve internal communication, coordination and collaboration - elements that are predicted to be main factors in the new social economy. I am in particular interested in how organizations' design must adjust and take new models into use to fit the social technology, and how social networking and employees working practices interplay with their use of the social internal platform.  My research case is a company operating in the intercept between ICT and business located in 23 countries, and my research design consists of the following;

• Ethnographic fieldworks run with a year interval (2011 and 2012) in Norway and Morocco with participatory observations, including conversations with key managers within the firm.
• Qualitative interviews of 27 employees/participants together with co-researcher Marika Lüders from Sintef, in four countries (UK, Norway, Denmark and Morocco) and at six entities
• Social network analysis of the participant’s close off-line collaboration patterns (off-line, outside the tool)
• Close analysis of the 27 participant’s user tendencies (on-line, within the tool)
• Close analysis of selected content and patterns of collaboration within the tool (The social networking functionality and the group functionality in particular, and in terms of participators sharing/reading/social working/co-working patterns)
• Close analysis of the 27 participant’s on-line, off-work networks in LinkedIn and Facebook
