Pernille:
Hello again, its been a long time since my last post, which I am very sorry about. The two last weeks have been very busy regarding schoolwork and I have also been one week in Tucksfors helping with opening a new store. This is our second store in Sweden in a short period of time, and was really exiting to be part of this expansion. My role in this project was mainly to set up the store, designing layout, and painting furniture.
During my week in Tucksfors I gained many new experiences and perspectives on the organization I work for. I feel privileged to take part of this process, to engage with colleges from other locations and learning about their routines and sharing my own experiences. If you want to read more about this or see some pictures follow this link. This link is in Norwegian!!
On a request from students in my class, BPA approached Careers Service regarding some additional questions concerning career paths, and application processes for international students. So, last week I attended a lecture held by Careers Service concerning these topics. They broadened our perspectives concerning other industries than consulting, and illustrated other career paths to pursue. There are also certain jobs that require more experience and should rather be seen as a long-term goal such as executive and management positions. As a graduate one cannot expect to go directly into the dream job. HR is also a field of expertise that may be hard to enter without any experience. This means that there may be better to seek opportunities that may give you the experience required in order to obtain your dream job in a later stage of your career.
In a previous post I wrote that I wanted to seek other opportunities, so this lecture was definitely of big relevance because it emphasized areas of my professional interest. More over it enlightened my expectations regards to my opportunities. Furthermore, the international students got very important information on how to relate better to employers. Mainly concerning language, their past experiences, different culture differences, and how to approach job searching processes in Norway.
I hope all of you had fun at the Career Days and embraced all the opportunities. I was looking forward to the Career Days for weeks and I prepared myself. I knew the different organizations attending, who I wanted to talk to, and what kind of information I wanted. I met some very interesting people and found some very exiting job opportunities in sales and media corporations. In particular I got to know some very appealing job opportunities that I am definitely applying for. However, some of the application deadlines are not due until March, so I still have time to prepare myself more.Lastly, I just wanted to remark that the Career Days is an extremely good arena for students to interact and get to know the market and we are really lucky to get this opportunity!
Have a fantastic week,
Pernille
