Jo Andreas:
Hi again!

Another week has come to an end, and it has been quite a week in regards to awareness and orientation in my job-searching process. Careers Service at BI have this year started up with career planning and job search seminars on the timetable for all full-time studies. Each specialization has its own tailored seminar to fulfill the needs of each particular study. In addition, each seminar includes one or two counselors from Careers Service and one representative from a company that suits the students’ specialization. Accenture was the company at our seminar, and their representative Espen Eckbo Brinker provided us with some interesting insights due to their recruitment process.
The seminar lasted for three hours and all of the five steps in the job-searching process where covered, and although it was three intense hours, it was three eye-opening hours as well. I am more certain than ever that successful job hunting is all about reflecting over my own motivation, personal skills, as well as my educational and work-related experience. In other words, knowing my brand and how to sell it; what makes me unique compared to other applicants? When I am aware of what I can contribute it is easier to apply for positions of interest.
So, theory to practice! I have started to work on an application this week, and although I am aware of what I can contribute along with my motivation for the company and the position, I find it hard to write it down. That said, I see parallels between writing term papers and job applications; do necessary research beforehand, use the research in relation to the topic, spend enough time and effort to be sure that all relevant information is included, and at last, optimizing the text and make necessary adjustments. So far I have done my research, used the information, and spent a lot of time and effort to include all relevant information. To optimize my application I will bring it to drop-in at Careers Service to get some feedback for further improvements.
I will reveal how it went in my next post!
Jo Andreas
PS: Credits to Careers Service for a great seminar which truly boosted my job searching!
