Time-consuming application

24 sep

Jo Andreas:

As I wrote in my last post, it was time to get feedback on my application. I dropped by Careers Service, which gave me some very helpful suggestions for further improvement. The counselor pointed out three key points for improvement, 1) less academic, 2) straighter to the point, 3) shorter. All three points was something I struggled with initially, and thankfully I received helpful advice from the counselor to overcome these issues.

Back to the drawing board! This was harder than I thought, and I ended up working on the application for several hours throughout the next three days. Then I went back to Careers Service for another drop-in session. Luckily, all of the hours paid off, and besides some additional but minor changes, the application was good to go. I sent it in, and am still waiting for feedback.

What amuses me the most is how time consuming it is to write an application, five days went by from the time I started on researching the company until I actually sent it in. Lesson to be learned; expect to use a lot of time, use Careers Service’s drop-in service for feedback, and get started sooner than later. At least I will continue to drop by with future applications, so they will see more of me the upcoming weeks!

Next time I will write some hot tips when you are writing applications – stay tuned!

Jo Andreas
