International Shipping

Increase your competence on INCOTERMS, risk reduction and liabilities within shipping.NOV and NODE have together with BI norwegian Business
school developed this programme in international shipping
with a special focus on INCOTERMS.

This course will give the participants an introduction to the role of maritime transport in international trade and to the specific tasks, challenges and liabilities owners and charterers are exposed to.
Shipping is one of the most regulated of all industries, which makes it crucial for all to understand how the laws,rules and contracts have an impact on the daily decisions made by the shipping companies.

This programme offers a thorough introduction to the development, practice, economics and legal frameworkof international shipping and we will have special focus on InCoterMs in this programme.

Here are some core subjects that will be presented during the programme:

 

• Introduction to the course. terms and abbreviations

• What is shipping? ships and trades the movement of cargoes

• Shipping as a part of major world trade patterns. What influences the demand for shipping

• International sale and purchase contracts

• INCOTERMS and sales contracts

• How to reduce risk? project cargo and specialised cargo

• Organising the ship owning entity – and the importance of jurisdiction and ship registration

• How to make money on the contracts used: Bills of lading, Charterprices, long term contracts of affreightment

• The importance of standard documents

• Environmental liabilities

• Non delivery or wrongful delivery of cargo – from the shippers and carriers perspectives

• Bills of lading and carriers liability to cargo. liability for loss of cargo, damage and delays

• Ship sale and purchase, the new sale Form 2012

• Carriers liability to passengers

The course gives 7,5 ects

The course will be conducted over 3 modules, of two days each.

Module 1: 10.–11. of april,
Module 2: 2.–3. of May,
Module 3: 29. - 30 of May.
Exam: 11. of June
