Sustainability
BI Norwegian Business School is committed to the UN climate goal of preventing global warming from rising more than 1.5 degrees.
BI contributes to sustainable development and social responsibility by working in line with the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and the UN Principles for Responsible Leadership Education (PRME). The aim is to integrate this into our research, teaching, organisational operations, and collaboration with stakeholders.
Through research and education, BI has a unique opportunity to contribute important knowledge and understanding of how organisations and businesses can create more sustainable development.
- Sustainability is integrated into courses and programmes in the full-time bachelor's and master's portfolios, as well as in various executive courses and programmes.
- Sustainability is a central part of BI's strategy.
BI Norwegian Business School is developing its campuses to support its ambition to follow international climate and environmental goals. All four campuses are Eco-Lighthouse Certified.
- Every year, BI prepares climate accounts for our campuses to survey our emissions. See our 2024 climate accounts here.
- BI's overall sustainability goal is to reduce our emissions by 50% by 2030. As of 2024, emissions have been reduced by 31% since 2017.
- BI's four most significant emission sources are employee travel, canteen, energy consumption, and electronic equipment (including the purchase of laptops, monitors, and phones). These accounted for 93% of BI's emissions in 2024. As of 2024, greenhouse gas emissions related to student commuting and travel are no longer included in BI's official climate accounts.
- The material recycling rate for waste for all BI campuses was 52% in 2024, compared to 51% in 2023.
- The waste sorting rate on all four campuses, meaning the proportion of sorted waste excluding residual waste, was 62% in 2024, compared to 55% in 2023.
