Introduction
Mathematical analysis is an advanced math course that is based on the first-year course in mathematics. The course deepens and extends mathematical knowledge and skills in mathematical tools that are essential for economists.
Course content
- Analysis of multivariable functions. Partial differentiation and partial elasticites. Implicit curves, implicit differentiation and linear approximation. Unconstrained and constrained optimization, also for the case when the constraint is given by inequalities. The Lagrange multiplier method. The Karush-Kuhn-Tucker method.
- Selected topics in linear algebra. Systems of linear equations and Gaussian elimination. Vectors and matrices. Matrix equations. Determinants and Cramer's rule.
- First order differential equations and initial value problems. Various integration techniques including integration by parts and integration by substitution.
