Bjørn Erik is Associate Professor of Innovation at Department of Strategy and Entrepreneurship, BI. Prior to starting at BI he was an Associate Professor of Information Systems and Management at Department of Informatics, University of Oslo (UiO), and was responsible for the Executive Master in IT and Management at UiO. Since 2012 he has been an Associate Fellow at the IKON Research Unit, Warwick Business School, and he is now Honorary Associate Professor at WBS. He also holds a position as Executive Director in EY People Advisory Services, and has worked as a management consultant for EY since 2007.
Bjørn Erik is an organisational sociologist who is doing practice-based studies of organising, innovating, learning, knowing and change in organisations. In particular he is interested in the development and and introduction of new technologies and practices in the health care sector. A central topic in his research is why breakthroughs in knowledge that could potentially lead to better patient treatment often remain local rather than being translated into medical practices elsewhere. Hence, he addresses issues like cross-disciplinary collaboration, boundary work, ways of organising, power relations, and learning in his research.
The International Conference on Organizational Learning, Knowledge and Capabilities (OLKC) has been an important academic community for Bjørn Erik since 2002. In 2014 he was part of the Organising Committee together with Cathrine Filstad, Jon Erland Lervik and Thomas Hoholm when BI hosted the OLKC conference. He has been involved in organising teaching workshops, doctoral consortiums and various symposiums at OLKC, and is currently Chair of the OLKC Executive Board together with Cathrine Filstad.
Bjørn Erik is also an active member of Fulbright Alumni Association Norway (FAAN), and has been a member of the Board since 2014. He is currently President of FAAN.
