Organisation and employees

At the end of 2024 BI had 1,013 employees.

At the end of 2024 BI had 1,013 employees, 517 administrative staff and 496 faculty members.

  • BI is an independent foundation led by a board of eight members.
  • The Supervisory Committee reviews the profit and loss account and balance sheet, selects an auditor, and ensures that the board's administration complies with statutory provisions and the articles of association. The control committee consists of three members, all external.
  • The BI Senate is BI's highest scientific body, and it has authority as per the board's mandate.
  • BI's Management Team consists of six people and is led by President Karen Spens. 
  • BI has a Programme Committee for each programme area: Bachelor, Master, Executive and Doctorates.
  • The Appeals Board handles appeals regarding individual decisions and, according to the board's determination, other appeals for candidates.
  • BAMU is BI's working environment committee. BAMU work for the implementation of a responsible working environment.

At BI, we create an inspiring work environment that fosters the learning and development of our employees. The work environment should facilitate the well-being and health of each employee and be characterised by open and respectful dialogue, diversity, equality, and consideration for one another.

In 2024, we had:

  • 1,013 employees, comprising 496 faculty members and 517 administrative staff, representing a 1.2% increase from 2023.
  • 337 students worked as student employees, equivalent to 64 full-time positions.
    Number of employees by gender:
    - 37 % of faculty members were women
    - 64 % of the administrative employees were women
    - 27,5 % of BI's professors were women
  • Share of international staff:
    - 36 % of faculty members were international
    - 7,5 % of administrative employees were international
    - 18 % of student employees were international
  • 52 nationalities, including Norwegian, are represented at BI.
  • BI had 924 FTEs, an increase of 17 FTEs compared with 2023.
  • 263 hourly lecturers worked at BI, a reduction of 38 hourly lecturers compared to 2023. 

At BI, we aim to create a positive working environment, prevent bullying and harassment, and minimise sick leave.

  • The total medically certified sick leave among BI's employees was 3.8% in 2024, representing a 0.5% increase from 2023.
  • In 2024, we reported one case of occupational accident to NAV. The Director of Facilities conducted an external review of work routines that require the use of protective equipment following the accident. Based on this review, the routines have been changed.
