Artificial intelligence has a huge potential for increasing public safety and making public services and law enforcement more efficient. How can we realize this potential while protecting privacy and human rights?

This event presents main findings from the major international research project AI4Citizens. Light lunch will be served outside the room from 12:30.
Project partners BI, NTNU, the University of Agder, and the Centre for AI and Robotics at the United Nations Interregional Crime and Justice Research Institute will present their work, followed by a discussion between academics, practitioners, and policy makers on implications of implementing AI in public spaces.
The event will cover:
- Ethics and human rights of AI use in public
- Technical solutions and challenges
- A demonstration of developed responsible AI systems for law enforcement and public security
- The perspective of citizens and civil stakeholders
- Actionable recommendations for law enforcement and other public safety actors.
The research project was carried out between 2021 and 2026 and was funded by the Research Council of Norway.
