Fraudulent documents
To ensure a fair admission process, BI conducts routine checks of submitted documentation. It is crucial that you familiarize yourself with the regulations, as violations will have serious consequences for your future education.
What is considered a fraudulent document?
You must familiarize yourself with the documentation requirements for your application. If you upload incorrect or manipulated documents, you may be suspected of document forgery.
False documentation includes not only total forgeries but also alterations to original documents. This includes the manipulation of grades, subjects, or dates on an otherwise genuine transcript or diploma. Documents from fake educational institutions ("diploma mills") or certified copies ("true copy") of a fake original are also considered false documentation.
Remember that you are responsible for your own application and ensuring that the uploaded documents are genuine and unaltered. This applies even if others have assisted you with the upload. Lack of knowledge about the regulations will not exonerate you in the event of suspicion.
Consequences of submitting fraudulent documents fraudulent documents
The use of false documentation is a criminal offense covered by § 361 of the Norwegian Penal Code. We react strictly to this, and violations are routinely reported to the police.
Document forgery may result in annulment of admission and/or quarantine for up to one year. If you have already taken exams based on incorrect grounds, your credits (ECTS) may be annulled and you risk being excluded Fraudulent documents will be confiscated.
Other colleges and universities in Norway are also informed of the exclusion through the RUST register (Register for information exchange on sanctions). This means that you cannot apply for admission or take exams at any other institution in Norway during the quarantine period.
Process in cases with suspicion of fraudulent documents
We conduct spot checks and verification of documents against issuers and registers. We may request to see original documents for control purposes at any time. Failure to present original documents may in itself lead to the rejection of your application.
If you are suspected of using false documents, you will be notified of the suspicion and given the opportunity to comment on the case before a decision is made.
The case will be thoroughly assessed by our appeals board/admissions office. Decisions regarding annulment or exclusion are made by the Board or the Student Affairs Committee (Nemnd for studentsaker) at BI Norwegian Business School.
Decisions regarding annulment or exclusion can be appealed in accordance with the Act Relating to Universities and University Colleges. Information regarding the appeal process and your rights will accompany any decision.
