What does the change involve?
The change applies to bachelor’s and master’s programmes that currently use degree titles such as Bachelor of Science, Master of Science or Master of.
Programmes leading to the degrees Master of Management and Master of Business Administration (MBA) are not affected.
The change does not affect the content of the programmes, the teaching, or the academic quality. Only the name of the degree and the study programme will change on the diploma.
What does this mean for applicants and students?
From 1 January 2026, all degrees will use the following titles:
- Bachelor in ...
- Master in ...
Previous titles such as Bachelor of Science, Master of Science and Master of will no longer be used.
The change applies to everyone receiving their diploma from 2026 onwards, including students who have already started their studies.
There will be no transitional arrangements, and it will not be possible to choose the previous degree titles.
Exceptions:
- Master of Management and Master of Business Administration (MBA) will retain their current titles (unchanged).
- Executive Master of Management will be renamed Master of Management.
Name of the study programme
All bachelor’s and master’s degrees will have both Norwegian and English names.
If the language of instruction is English, the programme name may appear in English on the diploma, with the Norwegian translation in parentheses.
