Introduction
This course intends to educate students about the principles of research ethics in the social sciences and issues related to research ethics. The course aims at making doctoral students conscientious about ethics and ethical principles in the social sciences, and preventing fraudulent behavior in research.
Course content
The course will consist of two sections. The first section discusses ethical research practice and includes an introduction in research ethics regulations and responsible data management at BI. The second section focuses on prominent case studies of ethical problems related to p-hacking, non-replicable research, the incentives of replicators, and publication bias. The course also introduces tools and best practices that can reduce ethical concerns, for instance an introduction to software and web based solutions that make it easier to create reproducible research.
