Bitcoin and Blockchain Technology

Introduction

Blockchains and Bitcoin are among the most disruptive technologies of the past 15 years, particularly in finance and commercialization. At the core of these technologies lies the distributed ledger technology (DLT), which ensures that data can be stored without the need for a trusted third party. Such distributed data storage has paved the way for innovations like cryptocurrencies, smart contracts, and Non-Fungible Tokens (NFTs).

The course provides an introduction to the underlying technology of blockchains, Bitcoin, and cryptocurrencies, as well as their applications in a business context. The course is taught with a focus on case studies and a flipped classroom approach, emphasizing high levels of interaction. Students are expected to come prepared for the sessions.

The case studies will combine theoretical insights with practical applications of Bitcoin and blockchain technology. Students will gain experience in applying their practical and theoretical knowledge to solve relevant business challenges wihtin Web3.

The exam will be based on class discussions.
