The Centre for Business History (CBH) is involved in research, teaching, reporting and other forms of communication within the field of economic and business history.

Business History Research – call for applications for funding

The Business History Research Foundation (Bedriftshistorisk forskningsstiftelse) aims to support historical research at BI Norwegian Business School, with a particular focus on modern and contemporary Norwegian business history.

The Foundation shall:

  • Provide seed money to initiate academically relevant research projects, including the purchase of literature, data collection, and the development of pilot projects.
  • Support the organization of seminars or other professional initiatives related to business history and economic history.
  • Contribute to the development of a professional environment for business history at BI, specifically through support for academic travel, guest lectures, and seminars/conferences.
  • Support work aimed at publishing results from completed research projects.
  • Support academically relevant projects that involve collaboration with other archival and research institutions.
     

Application details:

  • Eligibility: All academic staff at BI are eligible to apply. Collaborative projects involving academic staff from other institutions may also be granted support.
  • Requirements: Applications must align with the foundation's purpose. If the project has received support from other funding sources, this must be disclosed. Recipients must submit a short report to the board upon completion.
  • Application content: The application should specify the research purpose and, if applicable, briefly outline research questions, sources, existing research, and relevant analytical perspectives. A CV and a brief description of the applicant's background should also be included.
  • Funding amount: The total amount distributed annually is normally between 60,000 and 100,000 NOK.
  • Deadline: Application deadline: 10 April 2026
