Design of Interactive Apps

Introduction

The mobile phone has become a life companion for most consumers today, and is involved in many of our daily activities. In combination with the rapid technological development, this has created a massive demand for applications (apps) to satisfy countless needs. Consumers also have increasingly higher expectations for digital solutions, and companies are continuously working to design better and more user-friendly apps. Companies also use apps as a component of their business model, both for communication and interaction with consumers and customers, as well as for the distribution of different content and services. Employees in the communication department may have exciting ideas and wishes for apps that the company should offer, but the IT department may see challenges in implementing these. Management, on the other hand, wants to keep up with technological developments, and therefore wants to offer solutions to appear digitally mature and innovative.

We have an app for most things today and in this course you will learn about the main principles for designing an app for a specific purpose. More specifically, you will learn about the process from concept and idea development to solution, about the main principles of usability, conducting user testing, and what areas of application an app can potentially have. In addition, you will learn about principles of good interaction design, and you will develop a prototype for how a given app should look and function. The structure of the course, the implementation, and the student work are in accordance with how app development is done in practice.

Course content

The course mainly consists of using software to design an app in accordance with principles of interaction design and user friendliness to fulfill a need for an organization. The course will cover interaction design and user friendly design, user testing, concept development, and personas. The learning tasks include extensive practical work.
