About BI

AI at BI

Artificial intelligence is transforming the workplace, research, and the way we learn. BI aims to contribute knowledge about how this technology affects business and society, and to equip students with the skills they need to understand and use AI.

Artificial Intelligence in Education

At BI, students will develop strong academic knowledge and learn to use artificial intelligence (AI) critically, effectively and responsibly. Our aim is to educate graduates who can make use of new technologies, critically evaluate AI-generated content and apply their own expertise and judgement to make informed decisions.

BI is systematically integrating AI across its entire portfolio of study programmes.
We continuously explore how AI can provide more personalised support and feedback and enable new approaches to teaching and learning.

At the same time, BI closely monitors the changing skills needs of the labour market, including through dialogue with advisory bodies comprising representatives from business and the public sector. Their input helps us develop study programmes that remain relevant to working life.

How does BI ensure quality in AI-supported learning?

BI students should use AI in ways that support academic work and problem-solving. This includes understanding what AI can and cannot do, critically evaluating information and sources, and being aware of ethical, legal and data privacy considerations.

Learning without, about and with AI

Students should develop a solid understanding of their academic disciplines, learn about artificial intelligence and gain practical experience. This approach includes three forms of learning:

  • Learning without AI: Students still need to analyse and solve problems independently to develop fundamental knowledge and skills.
  • Learning about AI: Students should understand how AI works, its limitations and how it affects academic disciplines, working life and society.
  • Learning with AI: Students should gain experience using AI to explore problems, compare alternatives and solve relevant academic and professional tasks.

The learning outcomes determine the balance between these three approaches.

How is AI integrated into teaching and learning?

  • As a topic in courses such as marketing, finance and management
  • As a tool for analysis, programming and idea generation
  • Through AI-powered learning agents, support tools and digital sparring partners
  • Through case studies and practical assignments based on real-world business challenges
  • Through training in critical evaluation and responsible use

How is BI adapting assessment methods to AI?

At BI, assessments should provide a reliable picture of what students actually know and understand.

Learning outcomes guide the development of assignments and assessment methods. This increasingly involves a combination of written work, case-based assignments, on-campus examinations, presentations and oral assessment components.

BI has introduced oral hearings for all bachelor's and master's theses. The purpose is to give students an opportunity to demonstrate and elaborate on their own understanding of their work, while providing a stronger basis for assessing each student's academic competence.

AI in Courses and Teaching

AI is transforming most academic disciplines and industries. You will encounter artificial intelligence both in dedicated AI courses and as an integrated part of courses and study programmes at BI.
