The trip is part of the collaboration between BI Norwegian Business School and the Port of Oslo. The project explores Oslo’s position as a global maritime city and the potential for a green maritime corridor between Oslo and Rotterdam. It builds on the cooperation agreement the two cities signed in 2023.
Learning from other maritime cities is an important part of this work, and Copenhagen and Rotterdam are home to strong maritime research communities and industry players working on the green transition in shipping.
Copenhagen
In Copenhagen, the team met Camilo Rojas and Mark Stark at the Maersk Mc-Kinney Møller Center for Zero Carbon Shipping. The centre works on decarbonising the shipping industry.
The team also met Professor Henrik Sornn-Friese and Associate Professor Michele Acciaro from CBS Maritime Center, discussing maritime research and education.
Rotterdam
The trip continued to Rotterdam, home to Europe’s largest port. There the team met Michiel Nijdam, Head of Strategy at the Port of Rotterdam, Professor Rob van Tulder and port researcher Maurice Jansen
Professor Rob van Tulder took us to Rotterdam Business School, introducing relevant research and education activities.
The team also met Ellen Aarvaag Groeneveld from Elkem, who is Honorary Consul General of Norway in Rotterdam.
Valuable insights
The conversations gave the research team insight into other leading maritime cities activities and engagements. These perspectives are valuable our research project.
We would like to thank everyone who took the time to meet with us and share their knowledge and experience.
