Alexander Sønderland Skjønberg is a full professor in law. He holds a Master of Law degree from 2010 and a PhD in Law from 2018, both from the University of Oslo. His doctoral dissertation is titled "The Peace Obligation in Collective Agreements." He has been employed as at the Department of Law and Governance at BI Norwegian Business School since 2017. Additionally, he holds a position as Professor II at the Faculty of Law, University of Oslo. Previously, Skjønberg worked as an associate attorney at BAHR and served as an acting judge in the Labour Court of Norway.
Skjønberg's legal expertise primarily lies in collective and individual labour law. His work focuses on issues related to employers' managerial prerogative, dismissals, transfer of undertakings, strikes, lockouts, and other industrial actions, compulsory arbitration, collective agreements, and more. He is also particularly interested in the historical and ideological foundations of labour law. His academic interests further include legal history, contract law, and EU law.
Skjønberg is a member of the Labour Law Research Group at BI and
the Research Group for Labour Law and Working Life at the Faculty of Law, University of Oslo.
Skjønberg holds several national and international positions. He serves as the Chair of
the Norwegian Labour Law Association (NARF), editor for labour law at
Karnov Group Norway, editor of
the Nordic Journal of Labour Law, a member of the editorial board of the journals
Arbeidsrett and
Labor, and a national expert for the European Centre of Expertise in the field of labour law, employment, and labour policies. He is also a member of
the Executive Committee of the International Society for Labour and Social Security Law. From September 1, 2023, he has served as a deputy judge in the Labour Court of Norway.

Teaching and Supervision:
Skjønberg teaches labour law across various courses and study programs. He is responsible for and teaches the executive courses
BIK 2930 Labour Law I and
BIK 3406 Labour Law II and
JUR 3565 Labour Law at the law program.
He has also been a guest lecturer at institutions such as the University of Oslo, University of Stavanger and Inland Norway University of Applied Sciences.
Furthermore, Skjønberg regularly supervises master's students at the University of Oslo (UiO) and the University of Bergen (UiB).
