Background

The Paris Agreement aims for net zero emissions by 2050, necessitating a fundamental transformation of energy systems amid a projected doubling of global GDP.

This urgent global energy transition faces dilemmas related to climate change, poverty, inequality, biodiversity, ethics, and the reimagining of the global economy, including how organizations create value and stay competitive.

While the energy transition brings uncertainties and risks through ‘creative destruction,’ it also presents significant opportunities. There is no one-size-fits-all solution, and strategies require ongoing negotiation within complex social and economic contexts.

"Understanding the complexity of energy systems is key. The transition may have slowed, but it is far from halted. We know what to do, and now we must focus on steady, small steps instead of getting derailed."

Marianne Lefdal

Vice President Geoscience, Global EX

"An important theme in the course was value creation through 'coopetition' – that is, a strategy where competitors collaborate where they can and compete where they must. This is an approach I believe will be crucial if we are to succeed with the green transition."

Lars-Henrik Paarup Michelsen

CEO, Norsk Klimastiftelse

About the course

Together, BI and Rystad Energy offer an executive course on the energy transition, aimed at empowering leaders and senior professionals to deepen their understanding and make an impact.

Rystad Energy is a global research and business intelligence firm that helps clients navigate the future of energy through data, analysis, advisory, and educational services, giving them a competitive edge.

The course employs a systems-thinking approach to energy ecosystems, emphasizing collaboration among stakeholders and the integration of these issues into decision-making for value creation and risk management.

Participants will enhance their understanding of the factors shaping the energy transition and collaborate with peers to identify strategic and managerial challenges, utilizing Rystad’s extensive dataset for engaging discussions.

In the final modules, small groups of 3-4 will complete a case study and present their findings to peers and invited executives from their organizations.

This program has been developed in collaboration with the following companies from the Advisory Council for Energy & Ocean Sector.
