Biografi
Professor Dr. Juris Ellen J. Eftestøl is an academic with expertise in trade, transport and shipping law, with a particular focus on sustainable and efficient transport systems. She leads the interdisciplinary research pillar AMOR transporttransport | BIatCenter for Applied Mathematics and Operations Research | BI, where the group navigate complex legal landscapes to promote greener practices. Eftestøl's work analyzes European Union rules and regulations and their impact on international trade, including distribution agreements and agency, as well as shipping and transportation.
Eftestøl has contributed to interdisciplinary collaborations that have resulted in books on zero-emission transport and digitalization. Her publications address critical issues such as the harmonization of multimodal liability regimes in Europe, the extension of the EU Emissions Trading Scheme (ETS) to shipping, and legal challenges within Nordic maritime law. Furthermore, she provides insight into how emissions information can change behavior in the transport industry, examining initiatives such as "Fit for 55" and the polluter pays principle within the EU regulatory framework. Her work also addresses the complexities of environmental pathways between the EU and the International Maritime Organization (IMO). She is an expert in distribution agreements and her doctoral thesis examined the remuneration system in the Commercial Agency Directive and its implementation across Nordic legal systems.
In addition to her role as Professor of Law at BI Norwegian Business School, Eftestøl is affilaited with the University of Gothenburg as an Adjunct Professor. She previously served as Professor of Civil and Commercial Law at the University of Helsinki and Professor II (adjunct) at the Scandinavian Institute of Maritime Law, University of Oslo, where she received herdoctoral degree on Commercial Agency Contracts.Her primary areas of teaching include contract law, sales law, international trade and transportation.
Eftestøl was a co-founder of the Helsinki-based INTERTRAN research groupResearchers | Sustainable Law and Business | University of Helsinkiand is a subject editor for Karnov's Digital Law Commentary, providing insight into the Norwegian Maritime Code and the Norwegian Commercial Agents Act. She is also a contributing editor to European Transport Law Journal www.europeantransportlaw.com/and a member of the Editorial Board of the Nordic Commercial Law Review www.karnovgroup.dk/nordic-commercial-law-review. Additionally, Eftestølprovides legal opinions, acts as an arbitrator, and is a member of the Norwegian Petroleum Price BoardPetroleum Price Board and the norm prices - regjeringen.no
