This course bridges the gap between theory and practice through the rigorous analysis of real-world business challenges drawn from active firms. It focuses on discipline-specific issues while emphasizing analytical thinking, structured problem solving, and decision making in contemporary business contexts. The course begins with cases tailored to students’ respective majors, allowing them to apply relevant tools, frameworks, and methodologies from the common core and their specialized fields. The final case is integrative and cross-disciplinary, requiring collaboration across majors to address complex organizational challenges.

Working in teams, students analyze current business problems, develop actionable recommendations, and justify their decisions using qualitative and quantitative analysis. The course strengthens skills in applied problem resolution, critical thinking, managerial judgment, and professional communication, with a strong emphasis on clear written and oral presentations.

In addition, the course introduces industry-specific tools, business acumen, and best practices essential for effective decision-making within different functional areas, preparing students to operate confidently in real-world professional environments.

Kursets innhold

This course is divided into two major parts.

1. Monodisciplinary practice: In this part of the course, students will be introduced to discipline-specific methods and tools to apply their acquired knowledge to discipline-specific active business challenges. Industry practitioners will share discipline-specific tools applied to solve daily assignments.

2. Multidisciplinary practice: In this part of the course, the student will work in randomly assigned groups to solve firm-level strategic challenges which are influenced and informed by discipline-specific considerations and in turn impact the future practice of disciplines. Industry practitioners will share tools applied when working on both firm strategy and in multidisciplinary teams.
